Twelve Years a Slave

Steve McQueen's Twelve Years a Slave, one of the most awaited movies of the year, had its premiere yesterday on a sneak preview at Telluride Film Festival. It is the director’s third film and, like the two previous ones (Hunger, Shame), it stars Michael Fassbender. This time Fassbender has the company of Brad Pitt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lupita Nyong'o, Quvenzhane Wallis and Benedict Cumberbatch.

It narrates the true story of Solomon Northup a black free man from New York who is kidnapped and sold into slavery and spends 12 years working on plantations in Louisiana.

Twelve Years a Slave is a strong contender to the Oscars for best picture, best director best actor, best supporting actor. The film will have commercial release on October 18 in the US.

Return

Vertigo 451 was created in 2006, along with Prateleira Desarrumada, a books and literature blog. Those twins blogs were created to complement Mondo Bizarre Magazine but had long been forgotten. For now Vertigo 451 will be recovered to go along the digital version of the Magazine. Prateleira Desarrumada, or a similar blog, may, or may not, follow. Or, latter on, we may choose to integrate everything in the Magazine. Time will tell. We changed Vertigo 451 original cinema only coverage to include television. Television for us means TV series and films made for TV. Like the current digital version of Mondo Bizarre Magazine, this is a new adventure and we will see how it feels like.
